Bill Richardson to John McCain: Stop Whining

Governor Bill Richardson picks up the Leave McCain ALOOOONNE meme, which is right now all over talk radio.

New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson (D) said Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) is "overreacting" and "whining" in response to The New York Times refusing to run his editorial about Iraq.

Richardson, who supports Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) for president, said in an interview on Fox News on Tuesday that the rejection of McCain's editorial is not surprising because The New York Times turns down many editorials from politicians, including presidential candidates.

"Well, look, The New York Times is very fussy. I mean, I've sent many editorials that they've rejected - in fact, most of them," Richardson said.

Richardson said he did not think the newspaper showed "preferential treatment" or media bias, because they have run seven editorials from McCain in the past.

Here's what happened.

  1. Obama publishes piece on his Iraq plan in the New York Times.

  2. McCain submits hit piece on Obama to the New York Times.

  3. New York Times asks McCain to resubmit his piece, with his own plan for Iraq instead of a hit piece.

  4. McCain whines, mighty right-wing turns into a giant whining machine about the liberal New York Times, which publishes such liberals as David Brooks and Bill Kristol twice a week.

Rinse repeat.  The great whine has been done for thirty years, it'll be done for thirty more.  The only new piece of the story is Bill Richardson.  More Democrats like this, please.

WAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH.

the attacks on the Times never end (0.00 / 0)
I had an old friend who was a political reporter for the AP. He was a huge fan of the New York Times. He said that for every attack on the paper from the right for being too liberal, there was an attack from the left for being too conservative. In his view, that was a sign of the ultimate balanced news reporting.

Ever since then, I've noticed just how awesome (generally) the New York Times really is. They bend over backwards to remove every bit of political bias from their news reports, somehow without watering them down to oblivion. Yes, the editorial board is liberal, but again, they bend over backwards to offer op-ed content from all over the political spectrum.

I'm no media expert, but my impression is that running one of the biggest news organizations in the world is a tough job. I cut them a lot of slack.

That's not to say that they're perfect, and that they don't deserve constant watchdogging. But come on, you have to get your news from somewhere.

I read the NY Times doesn't mean I trust them one inch.  They have not proved reliable or even truthful.  At what point do they lose total credibility to you?

If the Times has not proved reliable or even truthful, then why do you even bother reading it?
