Obama Is A Flip-Flopper Who Will Stick To His Ideas No Matter What

Awesomely nonsensical attack from the McCain campaign:

The McCain campaign has come up with an intriguing new way to sell his opposition to a timetable for withdrawal: McCain just might withdraw from Iraq sooner than Obama's 16 month deadline!

"He'd like troops to come home earlier than 16 months if the conditions allow it," said Congresswoman Heather Wilson of New Mexico, on a conference call with reporters just now. "Senator Obama has said it's a 16-month timeline no matter what."

Wilson walked this line back a bit later on, reminding people that any such withdrawal would have to be based on conditions on the ground, and might take longer: "Whether that happens in 12 months, or 16 months, or 24 months, the important thing is that our troops come home with victory and America's vital national interests secured."

Just five days ago, the McCain campaign released a documentary entitled "Obama on Iraq: Whatever the Politics Demand." Now, they have surrogates on conference calls attacking Obama for being too steadfast on Iraq, while simultanesouly selling McCain's Orwellian flexibility on the subject.

Rarely have I seen a campaign, in the course of a single week, call another candidate both too steadfast and too flexible on the same issue. I guess, however, this is to be expected from a campaign that regularly calls Obama both the most extreme member of the Senate and a habitual flip-flopper. Because, you know, there is nothing that extremists do more often than change their minds to follow the crowd.

I have to praise McCain on this, actually (4.00 / 2)
That is, his decision to have some of the dumbest and least credible and likeable surrogates out there shilling for him. Wilson is a Domenici tool who was directly implicated in the US Attorney scandal and will no longer represent her state next year and almost certainly lose her senate bid to Udall. Fiorina was a complete disaster at HP and was basically thrown off the roof (with a nice golden parachute of course). Gramm is a greedy sociopath who is one of the people most responsible for the country's income and wealth disparity and the sorry state of its economy. Huckleberry is an annoying ankle-biter who just creeps people out. And Lieberman is, well, Lieberman. Ech.

Bring 'em on, Johnnie boy, bring 'em on!

It's all part of McCain's master plan (4.00 / 1)
to get himself laughed off of the planet.

Cognitive dissonance is no deterrence to holding mutuallyexclusive, contradictory ideas (4.00 / 1)
This is exactly what I wrote the last time you got upset with logical inconsistency.  Whether it works for McCain or not is another issue ....but normally it is no impediment in terms of political attacks....becasue it's no impediment in the minds of most people.

Especially in politics and general social views.
For example...anti semites  of the 19th and 20th century held that  Jews were stupid, ignorant, dirty, verminous rabble who nevertheless somehow were also the progenitors of a conspiracy to control the economic world through the evil machinations of Jewish bankers.  Bankers are rich and reasonabbly smart ...esp. if they are going to control the world....while the ghetto rabble are supposed to be stupid and ignorant.

Mutually contradictory ideas can often held by the same persons,  or if not the exact same persons,  then one idea can be held by one group and the other mutually contradictory idea can be held by a different group.

We got something for everyone here.

Logical consistency is hardly necessary to attack someone....the more you throw at them the likelier it is that something will stick.
