Given what you wrote .. is it any wonder that Raising Kaine backed off their support of him? ... you are right about Sebelius .. she faced the same problem Kaine did .. whether to give into big coal ... Kaine said yes .. Sebelius said no .. and her state is more Republican .. Kaine's actions here are odious ...  is there someone from VA that can explain why he said what he did?

So let's see: much more progressive; in a much more conservative state; and does it with a much higher approval rating. Is there any reason to ever consider Tim Kaine over Kathleen Sebelius?

that it's come down to Biden, Bayh, Sebelius, and Kaine, then Sebelius seems like the obvious choice on substantive grounds for progressives. She's shown genuine political courage, and there's reason to believe she could be truly excellent once unmoored from Kansas.

Meanwhile Kaine is anti-labor, anti-environment, and plutocratic. Evan Bayh is a neocon. Biden is a moderate progressive whose lonnnnnng DC career is conspicuously free of bold leadership, except on things like Clinton's conservative crime bill, which greatly expanded the death penalty.

Now, I suppose a progressive could formulate an argument for someone other than Sebelius on purely pragmatic grounds--the claim, for example, that Obama needs someone with more foreign policy experience--but on substantive grounds, there's really no contest.

i'm from indiana. i vote for bayh. it's the lessor of the evils. evan is for evan. he may be a neocon now but, he will only be if it's politically expedient. maybe i missed it but don't remember evan ever taking an unpopular stand. also mitch is the governor. mitch is a repub, guess what that means.

Bayh has the second worst voting record of any Senate Democrat. He is one of the worst Democrats we have.

Kaine and Bayh would be horrible, horrible choices.

that when unions were strong the average citizen (white) supported the union movement, but when the unions had to protect workers of color because of civil rights many of those same citizens became anti-union even though that was against their own self interests.  the modern con movement is based on prejudice, bigotry, racism, and hatred, and because so many in the us have that horrible trait in their mores it will take generations to purge bigotry from our society before a sweeping progressive movement can take hold again.

right to work for less (4.00 / 1)

Every Democrat who won a statewide election in Virginia supports the right to work for less law. Sad, but true.

It was very gutsy for Kaine to keep LaBlanc, one of the most energetic labor leaders of my life time. In terms of enforcing the wage and hour laws, occupational safety laws, Kaine has done a good job.

I would far rather Obama go with Sebelius and I have never been a fan of Kaine. I voted for Al Diamonstein in the 2001 LG primary, but my candidate lost.

I am just worried by the flavor of the week style of commentary on the blogs. Certain politicians become netroots heroes and can do not wrong, others become official bad guys and their record becomes completely distorted.

I hope Obama does not choose Kaine, but I have given up on the hope that he will chose anyone I like.

Kathleen Sebelius for Vice President (4.00 / 1)

Wes Clark is great. He'd probably make a fantastic VP. But let's face it. There isn't a chance in hell that he will be picked. He hasn't appeared on any kind of shortlist, isn't being vetted and doesn't even seem to surrogating or advising for Obama. He's got his own stuff to do and he's doing great at that but that does not include vice president.

On the other hand it's all most certain that Even Bayh and Tim Kaine ARE being vetted and being very seriously considered. It's very close to certain that the same is true for Kathleen Sebelius and Joe Biden.

I hope we can all agree that Kathleen Sebelius would be a wildly better choice then any of those other three.

I hate to say it but the Clark for VP campaign really isn't going to make a difference in the VP choice any more then a grassroots campaign to encourage people to write in Wes would make a difference in the presidential election. Wes Clark is simply not a option for vice president.

Kathleen Sebelius is and given the far worse alternatives I think it's high time for a strong Sebelius for VP push otherwise we won't have much credibility complaining if Obama does pick Kaine or Bayh.
