The Real Question Of Judgment

Likely Republican Vice-Presidential nominee, Mitt Romney, earlier today:

"Barack is a fine person, but I don't think he's ready to be president," he said.

Mitt Romney on Bush, eight months ago:

"[W]e also love a president who has kept us safe these last six years."

This seems like an easy attack ad on judgment. Does someone who thinks George Bush is a good President have the judgment to become a good President, or even determine who would be a good President? Nope, but I will take their criticism as a compliment. It would be easy to do the same thing for McCain:

Republican Sen. John McCain, a popular moderate, delivered a hearty endorsement Monday night of President Bush, describing him as a "tested" leader.

And:

John McCain aggressively challenged Barack Obama's readiness to be president and understanding of military affairs Monday.

Perhaps a better set of quotes could be found, but the attack is simply. Anyone who thinks that Bush is a good President has bad judgment, and will be a bad President. It strikes me as a simple, and effective, attack to make on the "judgment" issue that would cut at the heart of McCain's campaign message.

Actually, this is a fantastic line of attack... (4.00 / 3)
Get these ads out there.. multiple of them that start questioning whether McCain thinks Bush is a good president.

This will cause people to actually ASK McCain directly if he thinks Bush has been a good president.  And what can he say?  If he says yes, well, that's about 75% of people who disagree with him.  If he says no, well, say goodbye to the base, and then maybe we'll get to see a really petulant Bush as well.

This is an amazing idea, actually... and so simple I can't believe we didn't think of it before.  Get McCain on record about what he thinks of Bush NOW.

Indeed, simple but efficient! (0.00 / 0)
Great idea, Chris! I hope it gets picked up by the Obama campaign or by a supporting group.

Constantly associate the two (0.00 / 0)
More important than the specific line of attack is the necessity of constantly mentioning them in the same breath.

Good post Chris, and great idea... (0.00 / 0)
I like the idea Chris, lets hope Obama camp goes with it.

Romney Ain't Going to be the Nominee (0.00 / 0)
No matter how hard Mittens works, Romney isn't going to be the guy.  Mark my words: its going to be Lieberman (or Petraeus).
