I'm breaking out the pink tie.  Serious times, y'all.

Here's Steny being Steny, the money quote being "One of the things we have to deal with is the extraordinary failure of this administration to protect the Constitution."  And then, in explaining how Republicans can eviscerate the Constitution, he says, "They rationalize.  We all to some degree rationalize our philosophy based upon our objectives, the ends justify the means."

This is one of the key guys negotiating the bailout for us.

What's on your mind?  And where are my damned pitchforks?

as I twittered you earlier (0.00 / 0)
but you probably missed it:

"Maybe you should tell Steny that anyone who votes for Big Shitpile better not make plans for another term."

I have already written my rep & senators, closing my letters with a nice version of the above.

Matt.... (0.00 / 0)
...does this guy (or any of our leadership) have any clue that we are being played by the republicans, who are going to vote against the bailout bill and make us "own" it?

I know it's a rhetorical question.... of course they don't...

REID: Voting against us was never part of our arrangement!
SPECTER: I am altering the deal! Pray I don't alter it any further!
REID: This deal keeps getting worse all the time!

Obama's campaign needs to keep an eye on wikipedia (0.00 / 0)
and we need to help with google results on "John McCain".

A post on Democratic Underground alerted me to the two main wiki pages on JSMIII and BHO and let's just say equal scrutiny is not applied to the candidates, one of whom comes across as a wonk while the other one is a mavericky bipartisan hero.  The campaign articles are equally slanted in McCain's favor.

This is a defining moment for the Democratic Party (0.00 / 0)
I hope Hoyer, Pelosi, Frank, Dodd and that guy running for President all realize it.

Paulson has finally rung Joe Six-Pack's alarm bell that we are in serious shit.  J6P is not happy about being stuck with the bill for bailing out bankers that make seven and eight-digit salaries.  He already thinks that Washington is only concerned about taking care of the rich and powerful.

If the Democrats pick the wrong side on this, they are finished, history.  There'll be a new political class emerging, just as the Liberals in the UK and more recently the Conservative Party in Canada were shattered and then swallowed by new political parties.

Don't know who will lead that new class.  But just as Goldwater was the intellectual father of the Reagan Republicans, Ron Paul looks most likely to be the intellectual leader of this new political class.  He has been consistent on the right issues.

Obama will not be the leader of that new political wave.  He forfeited that leadership role when he flipped on FISA.  In fact, if as I suspect the Democrats do cave mindlessly to Paulson, Obama will be little more than a transition figure, the last caretaker for the old bankrupt establishment before the new politics emerges.

Sherrod Brown: National Treasure (4.00 / 1)
To Bernanke: "I haven't received one phone call from a constituent that's been positive.  I don't think people making $50,000 a year are interested in bailouts out executives whose country club fees are many times that.  Does Wall Street owe the American people an apology?"

Now talking about equity stakes in the affected companies.  He's got Paulson and Bernanke on the run.

Insert shameless blog promotion here.

Does Obama have the guts to use that line? (0.00 / 0)

"It sounds wrong...
