I for one welcome our Wall Street Democratic Overlords (4.00 / 4)
While I had hoped for some concern for the bread and butter needs of the vast majority of us, I recognize that without the active participation and capitulation to the Wall Street Wonders, we have a snowball's chance in hell of staving off the Christianist state.

That's really the best we can hope for, I guess?

well that's an interesting way to think about it (0.00 / 0)
tithing to the church of greed to hold off takeover by the fundamentalist medievalists. Dunno if that is the real deal but let us hope they deliver on their protection racket.

Any predictions? (0.00 / 0)
Pass/fail?

Total number of yes votes?

Pass (0.00 / 0)
Past experience seems to indicate that within both parties, the factions that voted for the bill on Monday are stronger in the Senate than the House and the factions that voted against the bill on Monday are weaker in the Senate than the House.

All I have to say is (4.00 / 3)
Hold Barack Obama to this:

I know many Americans are wondering what happens next. And passing this bill can't be the end of our work to strengthen our economy; it must be the beginning.

Because one thing I think all of us who may end up supporting this bill understand is that, even if we get this in place, we could still have enormous problems and probably will have big problems in the economy over the next several months and potentially longer, because the fact is, is that we have seen some mismanagement of the fundamentals of the economy for a very long time, and we are not going to dig ourselves out of that hole immediately.

So this is not the end. This is the beginning.

As soon as we pass this rescue plan, we need to move aggressively with the same sense of urgency to rescue families on Main Street who are struggling to pay their bills and keep their jobs. They've been in crisis a lot longer than Wall Street has.

I've said it before and I say it again: We need to pass an economic stimulus package that will help ordinary Americans... a plan that would extend expiring unemployment benefits for those Americans who've lost their jobs and cannot find new ones.

That's the right thing to do at a time when consumer confidence is down and we are in great danger of slipping into a big recession.

We also must do more in this rescue package in order to help homeowners stay in their homes. I will continue to advocate bankruptcy reforms. I know my colleague from Illinois, Dick Durbin, has been a strong champion of this, as have many.

It is the right thing to do to change our bankruptcy laws so that people have a better chance of staying in their homes and we're not seeing communities devastated all across the country. We should encourage Treasury to study the option of buying individual mortgages, like we did successfully in the 1930s.

It's going to pass (0.00 / 0)
overwhelmingly, 90 plus votes, I'd guess.

This disappoints me:

U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown is indicating he will vote yes tonight on the latest $700 billion financial bailout package. He says that middle class Ohioans should not have to pay for Wall Street's greed -- but adds: "If we do not pass this economic stabilization plan, Ohio's middle class will pay even more for Wall Street's greed."

"Pensions and retirement savings accounts will suffer, causing financial insecurity for millions of Americans," Brown said in a statement just released. "Credit will tighten, which will make it harder for college students to get loans. Cities and counties will have to pay more to finance their operations--and that means higher taxes and fewer services.

I think Bill Nelson's against (0.00 / 0)

I think Feingold will be a no (0.00 / 0)
Feingold and a few wingnuts like Coburn probably. Maybe Sanders.

[ Parent ]
Well if you look DailyKos has been doing a whip (0.00 / 0)
Based on watching CSPAN, and sorting the Senators into yes/no columns based on whether their speeches state for or against the bailout. By DK's count Coburn's actually a yes... Sanders is a no.

Ah, thanks (0.00 / 0)
I'm really just pulling this stuff outta my ass.

Go Cubs! (4.00 / 1)
Oh wait... wrong thread... =)

Will McCain vote against it? (0.00 / 0)

I hope the Democrats are anticipating this.

So far he's said he wants to support it.. (0.00 / 0)
I suppose this could be another one of his big "twists" in the campaign...

The RNC is spending $5M running AGAINST the bailout... so it's quite possible he'd coordinate with them.

On the other hand, there hasn't been much coordination between all the Republican factions in the past few days. =)

I will go on record now. (0.00 / 0)

I predict McCain will vote against it, and use that as a club to beat Obama with down the stretch.

If the Obama campaign hasn't gamed this out...

I would like to vote for this rescue package, my friends (0.00 / 0)
But earmarks earmarks earmarks earmarks

obama (0.00 / 0)
Obama should wait for McCain to vote first.

[ Parent ]
Good thing (0.00 / 0)
O comes after M then! Not that McCain's had any trouble being a two-faced liar, but it would be kind of hard to walk back all his statements in favor of the current bailout plan if he votes no...

Lindsay Graham indicated support (0.00 / 0)
confirmed in the Kos whip

Graham < > McCain (0.00 / 0)

Look at the polls. If I'm McCain, voting against this thing is the easiest decision in the world.

flip-flopper (0.00 / 0)
If he votes against it, he'd be the biggest flip-flopper ever.

Maverick. (0.00 / 0)
It's called "mavericking" when John McCain does it.

[ Parent ]
He already is (0.00 / 0)

  One more won't hurt him.

The polls were turning (4.00 / 1)
If McCain votes no, I think it'll be easy to present it as playing politics with the economic health of the country.

The polls I've seen are turning towards a very grudging support of the bailout plan.

My assumption is that Lindsay Graham is the closest thing to a proxy for McSame.

[ Parent ]
Okay, so they're voting on Amtrak now? (0.00 / 0)
Does that mean debate is over? And McCain didn't give a statement?
