McCain Rep in Virginia Does Another Macaca

There's a reason Republicans in Texas were selling that button in Texas.  And now the McCain campaignitself is pushing these kinds of 'jokes' in Virginia, as the LA Times reports:

A local newspaper columnist, in a spoof of Obama's platform, wrote in one recent piece that the Democrat would hire the rapper Ludacris to paint the White House black (a reference to a pro-Obama song by Ludacris), and divert more foreign aid to Africa so "the Obama family there can skim enough to allow them to free their goats and live the American Dream." He joked that Obama would replace the 50 stars on the U.S. flag "with a star and crescent logo," an Islamic symbol, and that his policy on drugs would be to "raise taxes to pay for Obama's inner-city political base."

The columnist, Bobby May, is also treasurer of the Buchanan County Republican Party and was listed in a July news release as the county's representative on McCain's Virginia leadership team, though he said his column reflected his views alone, and he denied it was racist.

Lovely.

thats the very problem (0.00 / 0)
with racist scum like this, they are too stupid to realize their attitude is racist, why they actually believe their opinion is good for america and its future, hate is a negative emotion but as a liberal and a moral person i hate racism and those that are stupid enough to let that emotion control their thoughts and actions, whether its because of mores or that they are just too weak minded to know better is irrelevant, people like that are not worthy of being called american brothers and sisters.

It's probably worth noting that Buchanan (0.00 / 0)
is in the heart of Appalachia.

Letters to the editor just ain't gonna do it down there. This is what Jim Webb is for -- send him down to Buchanan to take this guy on. He's got the cred to label this bullshit without making the locals feel like they're being attacked by an outsider.

not really (0.00 / 0)
Webb didn't do very well in this part of the state, he drew most of his votes from Northern Virginia liberals.

I sort of think, for that reason, that Appalachia is a bit of a lost cause.

But this would still be my preferred strategy if we're trying to talk Appalachians into not being overtly racist about Obama. He might not win them a lot of votes but he'd have as good a chance as any to get them to chill out on the color of skin.

It's not just racism and hatred... (0.00 / 0)
...but gross stupidity as well.  After seeing Barney Frank on O'Reilly the other day, somehow I don't think that he would be "Secretary of Peace and Love".

Allen was and is a dipsh*t, but this is way beyond "macaca".  As Larry Wilmore said, that was bush-league racism; this is the real thing.

Why is a local paper giving column space to a Republican party official?  That is not common in any of my local papers.

John McCain lets lobbyists shape his economic policy

They always deny it's racist. (0.00 / 0)
It comes from a basic inability to understand the meanings of common words.  They think "racist" is a synonym for "bad", leaving aside the actual meaning of the word.  Saying the remarks "aren't racist" is equivalent to saying, "Sure I'm saying Blacks are inferior.  But that's not a bad thing." Another of their favorite excuses is that something was "taken out of context", which to Republicans must mean something like, "Well, I only meant to humiliate that person, not get criticized."

Ever notice that all Republican "humor" relies on slapping someone down?  It may turn out that conservatism is a form of humor disability which has progressed the the stage of brain rot.
