When Did Georgia Become a Swing State?

Here's NielsonWire.

Yesterday Sen. John McCain boosted his TV advertising units in seven key swing states - Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Missouri, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Virginia, closing the gap between his advertising and Sen. Barack Obama's.

Missouri, Colorado, and Virginia are bad enough, but Georgia?  There are going to be a lot of Democrats in Congress who are suddenly representing much bluer districts than they are used to.  It's gonna get weird.

He's retreating and it's not pretty. He's trying to save face.

Not exactly on topic:

Here's something I decided tonight (I'm sure I'm not the first but I haven't really seen it discussed.) This campaign has shown that the Rovian strategy of attacking your opponent's greatest weakness has taken a big hit. It sort of worked, at least temporarily, with the celebrity angle. But, more importantly, McCain and others went after what has been Obama's defining trait since that 2004 speech: unity/post-partisanship. They did this by trying to paint him as a partisan and it has failed. Why? Because it wasn't credible. And that's the Achilles heel of this aspect of Rovian politics -- strengths tend to be strong and true.

Send the Reinforcements in for Jim Martin (4.00 / 3)
Saxby's going scorched earth accusing Jim Martin of being fired from his job as head of the Georgia DHS after two toddlers died under DHS care. He's literally accusing Martin of being a baby killer. It's total bull. Martin was originally appointed the head of the Georgia DHS by Democratic Governor Roy Barnes. When Republican Sonny Perdue took power in 2002, he asked all political appointees to tender their resignation. However, he kept Martin on for a full year after his innauguration before accepting Martin's resignation because he was doing a good job. When he left, Perdue praised his service.

But, the facts are not going on the air in Georgia. The DSCC has stuck to economic ads and Martin's response ad hasn't gotten much play because he doesn't have the funds. The VoteVets ad is a good start in fighting back, but Martin and the DSCC need to punch Chambliss back in the mush hard this final week of the campaign.

Old Saxby hitting under the belt? (4.00 / 2)
Nobody saw that one coming.

If They Want 60 (4.00 / 3)
Democrats need to hit Saxby back square in the nuts in the final week of this campaign.

I wouldn't mind hitting him square in the nuts period. (4.00 / 4)

TPM's got McCain advertising in WV (http://tpmelectioncentral.talkingpointsmemo.com/2008/10/mccain_campaign_now_advertisin.php)

I suppose we won't see them resort to advertising in the Untouchables: UT, WY, ID, AK, AL, TX, KY, KS, OK, and SC.

Or will we...?

The early voting there is just insane (4.00 / 5)
I don't know if this will hold up, and I very much doubt it will -  but if this is accurate, Georgia is going Obama

in related news, Dole avoids being seen with McCain (4.00 / 5)
Ambinder notes Dole skipped McCain's NC Rally.

I'm used to things like that happening in New Jersey, but in NC for a Republican?

Congress is always lagging a few years behind America.

kkkrap! (4.00 / 3)
if GA swings for obama, i have to eat a lot of crow pie. which will taste good, but still...i hate losing a bet. i guess it's worth it.

When did Georgia become a swing state??? (0.00 / 0)
About 72 hours before I mentioned to you guys the state was in play.  Thank the good patriotic Americans of the Peach State who are just now waking up from their long slumber, and telling the Republican Party to go screw itself.

I'm going to have to stop writing these comments, because I know that George and John have whole teams of sycophant analysts constantly scanning the Internet for my words, it's the only thing that keeps them in the know these days apparently.  :-)

FYI It ain't going to help you boys, you're all done in this country.

Obama 08, Landslide Baby Landslide

Where is Obama/Biden? (0.00 / 0)
As much as everyone is shocked about GA being in play, we always knew here that it would be close and that both candidates were taking the outcome for granted.  Even now, with early voting numbers through the roof, neither Obama nor Biden has paid us a visit.  I realize there are difficult decisions to be made in the last week regarding candidate appearances, but one little 1 hour rally in Atlanta couldn't be fit in to get people fired up and out to the polls?

we've been asking that for decades in New York (0.00 / 0)

What is our good friend Zell doing these days. (0.00 / 0)
When Bushie and Cheney won the White House and Zell won the special election to replace Coverdell in 2000. He moved to the right- 9-11 he moved further to the right. Roy Barnes and Max Cleland lost re-election- Zell moved further and further to the right. He endorses Bushie and Cheney in 2004- Gives the keynote address- writes National Party no more. Speaks at the Justice Sunday rally, Becomes a FOX NEWS political analyst. endorses Sonny Perdue- re-election campaign for Governor. Now it is 2008. Saxby is in a tough re-election campaign- Georgia is now a battleground state at the Presidential Level. Zell has not been on the campaign trail with John McCain
