November 18th Vote On Lieberman Likely

Looks like the Democratic Senate caucus will vote on Lieberman's fate:

Senator Harry Reid's office has just confirmed to me, on the record, that Reid is considering a new step: Asking all the Democratic Senators to vote on Lieberman's fate at their upcoming full caucus meeting if Reid and Lieberman are unable to agree on a way for Lieberman to relinquish his plum chairmanship of the Homeland Security committee.

"If Senator Reid and Lieberman don't reach an agreement, his future chairmanship may be put to a vote by the caucus as a whole on November 18th," Reid spokesperson Jim Manley told me, in response to my questions about the next step being mulled by Reid.

Since it appears likely that Reid and Lieberman won't work anything out, the best bet is that this comes down to a vote. It might be time to start whipping some Senators.

"Agreement"? (4.00 / 1)

I think I'll ask my employer to raise my salary to a million dollars per year. And if we can't come to an agreement, then I'll just have to deprive my employer of my indispensable services and work for his competitor. That'll show him!

Seriously, why is Reid acting like Lieberman has ANY leverage here? JUST DO IT. KICK HIM OUT.

The same Senate Democrats who organized so swiftly and efficiently to censure MoveOn for a freaking newspaper ad are now "wrestling" with taking action against a renegade senator who actively campaigned for the opposition party.

 Just. shoot. me. now.

It's a strategic decision. (0.00 / 0)
They're stuck with Lieberman's votes, whether he has a R, D, or I by his name.  He is pivotal enough so that everyone has to deal with him.

The only real question is how much damage he may do as chairman, and whether retaining him as chairman will prevent him from doing mischief elsewhere.

Reid Is Crafty (4.00 / 2)
If Joe the Jerk doesn't give Reid what he wants it's trial by "my friends," talk about humiliation being voted out by your buds in the club.  It's like being exiled to Elba.  Betcha Jerk takes the deal.  Hope he doesn't.

(And, if he isn't voted out Reid is covered...)

Has Any Senate Democrat Said Lieberman Must Go? (0.00 / 0)
The first big step towards getting Perfidious Joe out is to get someone on record as saying that the Big Lie needs the heave-ho from the Democratic caucus.

Whoever is the first to make a big stink about the stinker gets something in the deal.  He or she gets a lot of potential face time on the cable news networks and weekend talk shows.  Or at least should, if done right.  It's kind of a shame that a camera-hog with a penchant for speaking occasionally in an impolitic fashion such as Joe Biden is now VP-elect, because I bet he would be up to the task.

What's the likely vote? (0.00 / 0)
As of right now, do we have any certain yeas or nays?  Could we get a list going somewhere?

Um (4.00 / 1)
Do you think it would be put up to vote if he didn't have enough folks behind him?

Trust me there are a lot of dems who are furious at Holy Joe and I bet there are a few people who would want his spot.

A Note of Caution (4.00 / 1)
I've learned that it's good advice never to corner a man and never leave him a way out.  I think the best outcome, if possible, is to offer him a graceful way to stay in the party.  Offer him another committee chairmanship, albeit a committee that is less prestigious and where his subpoena power can't (or won't) be used to embarrass the administration.  That way, you can keep him in the tent pissing out rather than outside the tent pissing in.  You're going to need his vote to break some filibusters on judicial nominations where he may be on our side.  But if that can't be done, then the only alternative is to kick the SOB out.  But I'd still hold my nose and try to salvage something out of it.  Remember the old saw:  "Never do we stand so tall as when we stoop to kiss an ass."

They've already tried (0.00 / 0)
He refused. He only wants Homeland Security.

He is so arrogant and stupid.  Reid would not allow this to go to a vote if he knew that he didn't have enough senators on his side.

Now that it is out in public those senators that may or may not have been solid in ousting Joe will have no choice given  dems put pressure on them.

God Joe is stupid but he gets what he deserves.

The only graceful path i would accept for him would be seppuku.

Why are they voting on this? (0.00 / 0)
This does not need to be subject to a high-profile vote.  Why can't Harry Reid make ONE decision?  Just one.  The man is not a leader.

would it be Akaka for sure? is there someone not on the committee who would want to make a trade to get on it in order to be the chair?
