Our Friends on the Right: Who They Hate and Love

Your favorite news source, Right Wing News, conducted a survey of hundreds of conservative bloggers to determine which Republicans they like and which they don't. The qualification of "must be alive or mostly alive" eliminates the obvious favorites and leads to some funny names in the top ten. Sarah Palin got the most "favorite" votes. Call me naive but I'm still shocked they just don't care that she 1) knows nothing and 2) is unable to hide the fact she knows nothing.

# R Bloggers 10 Least Favorite R Bloggers 10 Favorites
1 John McCain Sarah Palin
2 Ted Stevens Rush Limbaugh
3 Peggy Noonan Bobby Jindal
4 Colin Powell Fred Thompson
5 Arlen Specter Newt Gingrich
6 Chuck Hagel Mark Steyn
7 Ron Paul Michelle Malkin
8 Pat Buchanan Michael Steele
9 Mike Huckabee Thomas Sowell
10 Arnold Schwarzenegger Ann Coulter

Okay, kudos for putting Ted Stevens near the top of "least favorite," but you know he's only there because he got convicted. If he had been acquitted he'd be near the top of the other list.

To be fair, their dislike of moderates is paralleled by the netroots dislike of centrists. But where's George Bush on least favorites? Just how much more damage would he have to do to the country before they said "We don't like that guy!"? Which names (or absentees) surprise you?

To answer your question (4.00 / 2)
George Bush, if he still exists at all in the minds of the  right wing, is simply floating around in the ether somewhere. Everyone's supposed to pretend the whole "Dubya" thing just never happened.

Case in point: wasn't just last week or so during all the "Let's all panic about the Democrats controlling all 3 branches" hysteria when none of the talking heads on TV could come up with Bush's name as the answer to the question "When did this last happen?"

Actually, they've hated Stevens (4.00 / 1)
since the Bridge to Nowhere controversy.  Redstate even told Alaskans not to vote for him, IIRC.

Don't forget (0.00 / 0)
He's prochoice. A libertarian in morality, a fiscal liberal (so long as the government spending directly benefits his constituents). Horrific. On the bright side for them, he's living proof that dinosaurs walked the earth during human times.

They literally did that the day he was convicted.

Honestly (0.00 / 0)
Am a little surprised not to see David Brooks and Lincoln Chafee on their hate list.  Note that only two of the ten they like are current officeholders, and neither are in DC.

brooks was 11 (0.00 / 0)
and Chafee was tied for 21 with Bush and Romney. I only listed the Top 10 on each side.

Why are they so mad at McCain? (4.00 / 3)
It's just weird that he would be the Republican that they like the least. We were sort of mad at Gore and Kerry for running incompetent campaigns and losing to Bush/Cheney, but I don't think we'd ever place either of those guys on the "least liked" list, especially not at the top of it.

I mean, McCain gave them everything they wanted, and they don't have anyone who would could have done any better in 08. His biggest single mistake was picking Palin, but... that can't be the thing they hold against him, since she's their favoritest of favorites.

And who put this darling in the spotlight? Persona non grata McCain! Seriously, where's the gratitude? Any of those other 08 doofs would have had their faces melted off by Obama, except maybe Huckabee, who, along with Jindal, might still be able to lead their party out of the wilderness.

If they're smart, they'll sacrifice Huck in '12 and set up Jindal for 2016. The fact that their most beloved Republican is Sarah Palin is the clearest sign possible that they're not very smart.

Eagerly awaiting the epic bitchfest of bitchy bitchery: Romney v. Palin. Oh yeah, hope it's in a cage!

Ah C'mon! (4.00 / 4)
Call me naive but I'm still shocked they just don't care that she 1) knows nothing and 2) is unable to hide the fact she knows nothing.

They do care.  They care a lot:

(1) It's a big "Fuck you!" to the reality-based community.
(2) It affirms superiority just based on group identity, nothing more.

It's the very core of what they're all about.

Surprised about Ron Paul and John McCain... (0.00 / 0)
Though, in a way they both fall under the category of "not man enough to win when we needed them to."  I think that's really the point here.  The strict father world-view is in full effect on both sides of the list:

McCain: loser = not strong enough
Stevens: felon = classic lack of discipline (he got caught)
Noonan: questioned Palin = lack of obedience to strict father
Powell: turn-coat = see above
.
Paul: questioned War/spoiled election(?) = lacks both obedience and discipline
.
.
.
Jindal: contender = possible strict father (aka most moral)
Limbaugh: loyalist = obedient to strict father
Palin: contender/loyalist = see Limbaugh (even if she does become President because we know who she'll serve).

Make sense to anyone else?

Hatred of moderates (4.00 / 1)
We don't hate moderates the way they do.  How much time do we spend criticizing Pryor or Landrieu or the Nelsons?  And their "moderates" voted with them on almost everything that mattered.  Hell, even Hagel, who is supposedly their "Lieberman" didn't endorse Obama or campaign against McCain.

Even when we target bush dogs, our rage is most focused on the ones who have Democratic districts.  I don't recall anyone suggesting a primary challenge to Nick Lampson in that R+105000 Tom Delay seat he fluked into.

What a bunch of BS (0.00 / 0)
You guys have a contempt for moderates that it is quite unnerving, to say the least.

Most surprised at Huckabee (4.00 / 1)
I thought he was highly regarded by the base and dismissed -- but certainly not hated! -- by the Wall Street Wing of the GOP.

no, a lot of conservative bloggers (4.00 / 1)
think he is too soft on immigration and taxes.

Only the religious Republican bloggers tend to like Huckabee.

Fred Thompson is still number 4? (4.00 / 2)
What the hell? What do they still see in that completely incompetent and ineffective candidate?

weird (0.00 / 0)
Poor McCain. All he did was pander to the right in his entire campaign and they still hate him.

So they hate Pat Buchanan and Mike Huckabee but love Sarah Palin. I'm not sure I get that. It must have something to do with starbursts....

Fred Thompson?!? And they complain about the left worshiping Hollywood....

I'm surprised Dick Cheney and General Petraeus aren't on the favorites list.

I wonder what similar lists for Democratic bloggers would like. Obviously Lieberman would top the hated list (assuming he even qualifies as a Democrat anymore). The Clintons (especially Hillary) and Obama would be on the favorites list.

Here's my guess (0.00 / 0)
At the list of favorite Democrats:

1. Barack Obama
2. Russ Feingold
3. Al Gore
4. Dennis Kucinich
5. Ted Kennedy
6. Hillary Clinton
7. Wes Clark
8. Jon Stewart
9. Bill Clinton
10. Howard Dean

Notable how few congresscritters on the list (0.00 / 0)
Jim DeMint is the top Washington office-holder on the likes list at 11 and only six more feature in the top 30.

Their names? Jeff Flake, Mike Pence, Tom Coburn, Paul Ryan, Michelle Bachmann and Dick Cheney. Notice a trend? Perhaps that they're almost all bugfuck-crazy even by winger standards?

Poor Mitt must also be upset. He doesn't make the friends list and is as liked on the other list as George Bush, and only marginally more popular than Olympia Snowe.

Why would Mittens .. (0.00 / 0)
be on the liked list? .. the wingers only like him because they think he is pliable .. and would do whatever it takes to stay in their good graces .. he's not a true believer .. they'd turn on him in a second .. just like McCain
