NM Poised to End State Executions? (David Kaib)
The New Mexico legislature just passed a bill to replace execution with life in parole. Now it's up to Bill Richardson, who has said that he is uncertain as to whether he will veto the bill.

There are a number of states that are also close to ending the death penalty.  If Richardson does the right thing, the impact could be felt well beyond NM.

thanks...
for posting. Hopefully Richardson won't veto.

Indeed. Hopefully
there are some New Mexicans (?) around here who can call Richardson and tell him to do the right thing.

Who are the best keepers of the people's liberties? The people themselves. The sacred trust can be no where so safe as in the hands most interested in preserving it.

The GUB declared yesterday he's "open."
He's invited citizens to call or otherwise let him know how they feel.

Funny, how when legislation passes to extend huge tax breaks to developers, he never opens up his lines for public comment...
