Coup in Honduras - real time updates (Xcroc)
Eva Golinger is providing real time updates of the coup in Honduras.  The US Navy resurrected the 4th fleet to partner/police Latin America in April 2008.  I read, but don't have the link, that they issued a statement about successful (military) partnering with Honduras in January 2009.  As of this writing Obama and Clinton have not used the word coup.

From Eva Golinger earlier:

3:15PM INT'L COMMUNITY UNANIMOUSLY REJECTS MILITARY COUP IN HONDURAS
The Organization of American States, ALBA nations, European Community, United Nations, UNASUR, MERCOSUR and even the United States have now ALL condemned the military coup underway in Honduras. HOWEVER, the Honduran Congress, Supreme Court and military are refusing to recognize their actions as a coup d'etat.

Still the other nation to not unequivocally call for President Zelaya's immediate rescue and reinstatement is the United States, nevertheless, Hillary Clinton has issued a statement condemning the "situation" in Honduras and calling for "respect" for constitutional order.

Disturbing news, found at an independent news site in NewZealand
Opposition forces in Honduras, led by a US-funded NGO Grupo Paz y Democracia, have stated via CNN that a coup has not ocurred, but rather a "transition" to democracy. Martha Diaz, coordinator of the NGO, which receives USAID funding, has just declared minutes ago on CNN that "civil society" does not support President Zelaya nor his "illegal quest" to hold a non-binding referendum on a potential future constitutional reform. She justified his kidnapping, beating and removal from power as a "democratic transition". Again, this is eerily reminiscent of the coup d'etat in Venezuela in April 2002, when so-called "civil society" along with dissident military forces kidnapped President Chávez and installed a "transition government". The goups involved also received funding from the U.S. government, primarily via the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) and later from USAID as well.

Really, I can't tell you how sick I am of that USAID shit. What the eff is is those officials thinking when they support groups that state that a military coup is a "transition to democracy"? These perversion have to stop! The US should keep out of other nations' affairs! Period.

Btw, watching TeleSUR right now. Pictures from Honduras. Lots of people on the street, protesting peacefully.

Rueters had a story that Obama "only recognized Zalaya" as legitimate President.
I cannot find the original article right now but this is the link that refers to it.

A senior administration official said later, however, that the United States recognized only Zelaya's government as legitimate.

Well, I didn't say I believe Obama is behind this.
Only that the US fund political groups in other nations, that often turn out to be not very democratic. Really, what's the explanation for this? How would US citizen feel if the rethuglicans would receive money from Russia, or maybe the National Socialist Movement would be supported by China? Damn, what the eff is wrong with the US? Which other nation has such an agency, whose job is to meddle in other nation's affairs???

If you are refering to the Shadow Government
I am with you.

But not if you refer to the US in general terms. There are still good people here.

Hmm, dunno. I get it via satellite.
Which I think is quite surprising, since it's a european satellite (ASTRA). But it's Venezuela's Telesur alright. Sadly, I don't speak spanish, so I can only guess what is going on.

Right now, the headline says: "Micheletti: Ejercito Cumplio."
No idea what that means...

Telesur has a website, but now live prictures now
http://www.telesurtv.net
It says, "Versión Sólo texto por exceso de tráfico". Even without knowing spanish, I translate this as "Text only version because of excessive traffic". Ok, that's not really surprising right now..

You got that one right (nm)

Translation

Without context, I'd say it quotes Micheletti as saying "The Army Did Its Job".

"Cumplio" literally means "met its commitment".

Well, ok, I did learn some words as a teen...
...during holidays on Mallorca. But only the essentials:
"Dos cervezas, por favor!"
:D

That's all you need! (nm)

But Iearn some new words now
Looks like "Golpe De Estad" means "coup d'etat", right?
:-(

And "imagenes exclusivas" seem to be exclusive pictures. But it looks like Telesur doesn't have live coverage, directly from Honduras. Instead, they did repeat street scenes from the afternoon several times. Now there are some new pictures, shot with a normal consumer cam: Crowds, burning tires, speakers with bullhorns - "manifestaciones populares".

[ Parent ]
Yep

"golpe de estado" means "coup d'etat". "Golpe" literally means "wound" or "lesion".

I don't expect Obama to stand up for the downtrodden, but can he at least use bourgeois language?
Obama is fond of saying "let Iranians decide what form of government they want" as if they are all sitting at a cafe in down town Iran tossing out ideas.

There is the Iranian majority, and there is the wicked government. Both are subsumed in the word "Iranians". Thus that rhetoric needs to go, and more clear rhetoric needs to replace it.

So with Honduras. The position of the US needs to be that there is a military dictatorship and there is the vast majority of Hondurans. We don't want "them" to decide. We want the majority to decide to the detriment of the ambitions of fascism.

Obama is weak sauce. The world is too dangerous a place for a leader to be measured and found so wanting.
