ABC News Exclusive: Obama Gets Thousands of Dollars of Tax-Free Perks

ABC has broken a story sure to rock the political world. Reporter Scott Mayerowitz has discovered that Barack Obama's compensation is actually more than the recently reported $400,000. Unbeknownst to many, in addition to that large 6-figure sum, Obama is allowed to use, TAX FREE, a very fancy limo which comes with a driver for whom he does not pay.

And the car is not just your average run-of-the-mill limo but chock full of fancy gadgets including rididculously expensive bullet-proof glass and other high-tech security features.

And the car is not Obama's only tax-free perk. He is also given, in addition to his handsome salary, a $50,000 budget for....wait for it....PARTIES! That's right, if he wants to welcome, say, Nicolas Sarkozy to the United States he can get the beer and chips and stuff FREE. At a time when many Americans have lost their jobs Obama is partying on your dime.

ABC News has also revealed this shocking truth: Obama has been given a HOUSE to live in TAX FREE while he is President. That's right, just when people are losing their mortgages Obama is given this gigantic perk and guess what he pays on it monthly: nothing! Nada!

As you can see, it's not some fix-er-upper either. It's got a ton of rooms and comes with another tax-free perk: free staff.

Really, as if this weren't enough, ABC informs us that Obama also gets to use, at taxpayer expense, a huge free airplane. He flies first class or coach or anywhere he wants to sit because the whole plane is his to use tax-free. There's more too but you'll have to read the full exclusive story for that.

ABCNews.com is also letting us know, in their top story, that on the stimulus bill "Obama lost" even though they say it will pass.

Just when we thought traditional media was dying ABC News comes along with these gems to prove they've still got it.

20/20, John Stossel To Run Hatchet Piece on Young Voter Engagement

by: Michael Connery

Thu Oct 09, 2008 at 14:18

On Friday at 10pm, 20/20 will run a piece on the youth vote called "Maybe It's Your Civic Duty Not To Vote," in which they suggest that uninformed voters - primarily young people - not turn out to the polls.  In talking to the youth group,HeadCount, featured in the piece, it is clear that 20/20 and Stossel were less interested in discovering the truth about young voters while filming their piece than in crafting a hatchet job meant to cast doubt on the growing youth vote.

A Throw-Back Diary: More "ABC For McCain"

by: Paul Rosenberg

Sun Apr 27, 2008 at 19:08

I started this during the week, and it now seems like ancient history... Except, of course, we all know how things just keep popping up again, like you was playing whack-a-mole....

Last Saturday, over at TPM, Josh called attention to yet another example of ABC being in the tank for McCain.  First, he cited the fact that McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds called Obama "recklessly dishonest" for directly quoting McCain's own words.  Then he noted that ABC News had picked up the Tucker Bounds claim and written a story around it.  Now, compared to the mega-travesty of the presidential debate a few days earlier, this was certainly small beer.  On the other hand, considering how much criticism ABC got for that sorry outing, you might think they'd want to keep their noses clean for a least a millisecond or so.

But noooooo!

In fact, as you'll see below the fold, the sequence followed this simple pattern:

(1) John "Straight Talk Express" McCain makes a contradictory set of statements, both acknowledging that Americans are hurting economically (which is true), and claiming that the country has made "great progress economically," under Bush (do you have to ask?)

(2) Media doesn't say diddley.

(3) Obama picks up on the absurd lie, and uses it to attack McCain as out of touch.

(4) McCain spokesperson attacks Obama as "recklessly dishonest."

(5) ABC News writes story, "Obama Twists McCain on Economy," with the lede:

Who says Barack Obama doesn't know how to "twist the knife"?

This sort of sequence is so incredibly commonplace that we barely even notice it sometimes.  But it's worthwhile to stop and take a closer look at it, dissect it a bit, in order to better understand how ABC is helping John McCain.
