A few weeks back, the FixCNBC Campaign was launched by the PCCC, attempting to get 20,000+ signatories to their letter to CNBC pressuring them to practice responsible journalism. Well, the goal has been reached, and when it was time to send the letter to CNBC Headquarters, the PCCC reached out to several progressive New York comedians, including Laughing Liberally favorites Negin Farsad, Lee Camp, Katie Halper and Baratunde Thurston - and in the three days since it's been posted to YouTube, it's already cracked the 20,000-view mark. Watch the magic, and consider helping to support further work like this:
Because Republican ideals seem to suddenly be up in the air, Fox News has had some trouble figuring out how to package their propaganda. They finally admitted their confusion on their Website.
Okay team, don't forget to dispose of this memo when you're done reading it. Anyway, clearly we need a late-October surprise. Here are the possibilities I've come up with. Some may sound outlandish, but I'm willing to do anything and spend any amount to win this bullshit election.
So most of my posts are fake/parody/satire/pretend/bullsh*t--whatever you wanna call 'em. And because of that, whenever I write something real or genuine, people assume it's fake. It's kinda like when Bush tries to tell the truth. But I mean it honestly this time--this post is real.
A national radio show had me on this morning as a "political comedian." And the way radio shows usually work is that they have you on hold on the phone while you wait to be introduced. While you're on hold, you can hear everything that's going on on the show. As I was sitting on hold at 7:45 AM this morning, I started to realize this radio show was definitely not part of the "Liberal Media Elite," as they say. You know, those crazy left-wing nutbags like Lou "stab-the-brown-people" Dobbs and Glenn "how-do-I-know-all-3.5-billion-Muslims-aren't-terrorists" Beck.
It's a sort of ironic twist of fate that just as Obama's pushback seems to be getting flimsier and flimsier, the comedic takes on McCain we're seeing throughout the internets seem to be getting sharper and sharper - as we've written before, comedy can be a great way to reframe the debate and redefine the perceptions of candidates and issues. Now, if only the campaign proper and campaign improper could get on the same page.
I'm waiting to see Grover Norquist speak at the Target Center in Minneapolis surrounded by a few thousand Ron Paul supporters. Yesterday a Ron Paul supporter proselytized to me for fifteen minutes about freedom and property before going on a rant against President Lincoln for provoking the civil war by raising taxes on South Carolina. This is, shall we say, 'out of the box' thinking.
Here's Tom Woods laying into McCain and Obama. His quips are remarkable, this one is a vicious criticism of Madeleine Albright.
And here's a line about McCain versus Obama on the tax code. It's fresh rhetoric, really compelling, and horrific at the same time.
... Norquist just spoke, and he talked about how Democrats are people who don't want the unemployed 'to get jobs and switch parties'. He also compared Republicans that vote for higher taxes to 'ratheads' in coke bottles.
8:07p Having coffee in the Coffee Bean in Denver discussing blogging with a few nerds of tremendous proportions. Sadly enough, I fit right in.
8:09p Riot police shooting tear gas into small crowd of protesters. Cops are dressed like Storm Troopers. Protesters are dressed like a Salvation Army catalogue.
8:11p I join the protesters though I'm not yet sure what they're protesting.
