TN-09: Racist and anti-Semitic ads from... a Democrat??

by: BruinKid

Thu Aug 07, 2008 at 06:13

Ugh, this is disgusting.  Tomorrow, on August 7, Tennessee will hold its primaries, and in Tennessee's 9th Congressional district, where Memphis is located, it's gotten ugly.  This is the seat that used to belong to Harold Ford, Jr. (D), until he gave it up for a Senate run where the GOP ran that ad with the white woman going, "Harold, call me!"  (Harold is black.)  Well, when he gave up that seat, it went to fellow Democrat Steve Cohen, who is a white Jew.

And it seems that's become an issue.

Emily's List Backing Anti-Semitic, Homophobic Campaign???

by: Paul Rosenberg

Sat Jun 07, 2008 at 20:01

What would you say of a politician running for Congress who failed denounce something like this attacking her opponent:

Typical Republican, right?  Well, almost.  Typical Harold Ford protege, actually. A corporate lawyer after his own heart.

The minister who put it out--who lives well outside the district--works with a group that's in league with the Traditional Values Coalition.  And Emily's List is supporting her, more on the basis of her ovaries than her anything else--given her non-existent pro-choice credentials.

In 2006, local blogger David Holt reported: "When asked about abortion, she said the she doesn't support abortion but that the government should stay out of it."

That's an Emily's List candidate nowadays???

In sharp contrast, her incumbent opponent, Rep. Steven Cohen ranks in the TOP 25 according to Progressive Punch.

The attacks are motivated by Cohen's race, his religion, and the fact that he supports hate crime protections for lesbians and gays.  His enemies clearly have no place in the Democratic Party.  But Emily's List is in bed with them!  And Black Agenda Report--in the person of no-nonsense Executive Editor Glen Ford--is all over this, as you'll see on the flip.

McCain & Hagee--The Armageddon Connection: "Less Jobs, More Wars" On Steroids

by: Paul Rosenberg

Sat Mar 01, 2008 at 17:46

In my previous diary, "McCain: The Hate Vote Turns Inward, Cracks In The Media Denial", I cited a Talk2Action diary from last July by Richard Bartholomew, "McCain and Gingrich Court Christians United for Israel", which gave us a glimpse at how low long McCain has been courting the support of the controversial rightwing "Christian" bigot, John Hagee.  I quoted the following paragraph:

There was a time when a man who rails against "international bankers" and the "Illuminati" and who cites the design of the $1 bill as evidence of an occult-Masonic "New World Order" conspiracy would have been seen as something of a crank. But not any more, apparently, if the success of John Hagee is anything to go by. Max Blumenthal has already highlighted the cosy relations between the conspiracy theorist and AIPAC; now Hagee has had the satisfaction of seeing John McCain come as a suppliant for votes at the Washington conference of Christians United for Israel, of which he is the prime mover (along with some more urbane figures, such as David Brog).

Then I wrote:

Bartholomew's post gets even more explosive, as I'll explore in a follow-up diary.

Now's the time to make good on that promise.  Hagee, you see, is the driving force behind Christians United for Israel, a "Christian Zionist" counterpart to AIPAC that's orders of maginitude more powerful than the Nation Of Islam ever dreamed of being.  And what Christian Zionists want is nothing short of the destruction of Israel, America, and the rest of the world as we know it.  They think the Apocalypse is a good thing. Health care??? Education??? Jobs???  PHOOEY! Blood and guts for everyone!

Compared to them, the neocons are just sissies....
