How this will play out is so predictable

There will be calls for the DoJ, FBI & DHS to step up efforts to prevent such violence and keep track of potential perpetrators, which they will do (and likely would have done even absent such calls, because this is what they're supposed to do--protect Americans from violent nutjobs of whatever persuasion).

The far right, feeling persecuted and seeing a great opening to rally their followers, will scream "Racial profiling! They're targeting white Christian men who own guns! Liberal fascism! They're taking away out rights!". Beck, Hannity, Limbaugh et al will scream about this 24/7.

The media will pick up on this and feature segments asking "Is the government overreacting to a few isolated cases of RW violence? Are we headed for a police state? Pat Buchanan will be on next to discuss this alarming new development".

They will tie it to the Sotomayor nomination, claiming that she's going to rabidly support this liberal fascist police state that seeks to marginalize white Christian men who own guns and promote a radical left-wing pro-illegal alien, abortion on demand, anti-gun, anti-family values agenda. And the media will feed right into it, pretending that these are legitimate accusations that need to be seriously considered. Mika and Joe will express their deepest "concern" over whether Obama might not be going too far. Tweety will fondle Tom Tancredo's leg on Hardball. Rachel, Keith, Jon, Stephen, Greenwald and Digby will, of course, totally mock all this and rip it to shreds. And no one will care, because it's all about the noise, not the substance.

And Dems will back down, bit by bit, voting for blatantly political "Up with Americans" resolutions in congress, apologizing to white Christian men who own guns and their leaders, urging the DoJ, FBI and DHS to back off and let them be. And so on.

I.e. past is prologue. It's so depressingly predictable. And until Dems and decent people of all political and ideological persuasions other than these ACTUAL fascists stand up to it, they will make inroads, and get Dems to back down. Incidents such as this are what they view as fundraising and political agitation bonanzas. Such is their craven sociopathology.
