Update 23: We won Bangor, 54-46%, third largest city in Maine.

Update 22: Campaign manager Jesse Connolly is live now on Maddow (9:19 PM).

Update 21: Let me do an overall roundup- we are getting the base vote numbers in that we need from Portland, its suburbs, and the college areas of Orono and Farmington. Bad news so far is losing Lewiston 60-40%, but not horrible. Still waiting on a lot of Region 1 precincts- where our other base votes are- and rural areas.

Update 20: State Representative Mike Casey, who represents downtown Lewiston, just sent me final total numbers- we lost 60-40%. The final reporting turned the tide. Again, that’s a heavily Catholic area, but the percentages aren’t great.

Update 19: Final numbers are in from UM-Orono campus- 81% No, 19% yes. In town of Orono itself, we won 73-27%.

Update 18: We won Kennebunkport, home of the Bushes, 61-39%.

Update 17: We won Bar Harbor, a town in “downeast” Maine- very small coastal town- 71-29%!

Update 16: We won Yarmouth, another suburb north of here, 66-34%.

Update 15: A huge cheer just went up in the room- we won Brunswick, a coastal town 20 minutes north of Portland with Bowdoin College in it, 63-37%. What we’re looking for.

Update 14: Marc Mutty is live on the local news talking about the silent majority coming out. Right.

Update 13: I just took a look at all the final numbers in from every Portland precinct. Portland is the largest city in the state. We’re winning each precinct by a touchdown or two. Portland is the uber-base of base precincts in the state, and we needed to do huge there, and we have. Mid-70s and mid-80s in terms of % No votes which is great in many places.

This is a thread for election results from Maine. I will be updating this thread from the boiler room headquarters as numbers come in. You can also follow updates on my Twitter feed. The earlier updates from the night are in the extended entry.

Update 11: In Lewiston-Auburn, we’re winning 58-42, including absentees. HUGE. That is one of the heaviest if not the heaviest Catholic region in the state. Nearly all of those numbers are in.

Update 10: Overall in Region 2 are on target for our vote goals.

Update 9: The numbers in Falmouth, a northern suburb, are 65% as well. VERY good.

Update 8: We are getting the base vote numbers back that we need in in South Portland- about 65% No votes. They’re nearly all in.

Update 7: In Portland 5-2 precinct, our worst place in the city, the numbers are approx 1,400 No, 1,100 Yes. Very, very good.

Update 6: The early numbers from Orono (where the largest Univ of Maine campus is) are very on target for what we need- the first precinct which is the campus is just over 10K No, 2K Yes.

Update 5: FIRST NUMBERS IN: In Region 1 about 2K votes in and it’s 51-49 Yes. Region 2 the numbers are looking about 60-40 No, as expected. In Regions 3 and 4 barely any numbers are in, and they’re all tight.

Update 4: Folks are asking me offline about Bangor Daily News and their accuracy- like I wrote in Update 1, their numbers are screwy, and folks here who are in the room who workfor the state party say BDN’s numbers are always screwy all night but they tend to call it accurately first in the end. For example they say 551 people voted, 55 No, 24 yes. So take it all with a grain of salt. I’m taking my numbers from the campaign staff which get them directly from the poll sites.

Update 3: Field staff says a lot of our base precincts still waiting in line to vote. Polls closed at 8 PM EST.

Update 2: I’ll be talking a lot in terms of “regions”. Region 1 is York County and Region 2 is Cumberland County- heavy base votes in southern Maine for us, the No side. Region 3 is a mix, independent voters- Androscoggin, Sagadahoc- Franklin, Kennebec Counties- which are just north of Portland and Regions 1/2. Augusta, the state capitol, and Lewiston-Auburn, which are heavily Catholic but still mixed, are in Region 3. Region 4 is the rest of the counties, which is heavy rural northern Maine- heavy Yes base votes with the exception of Orono, the largest University of Maine campus in the state. We want big numbers in Regions 1 and 2 and do really well in 3. Basic map is here.

Update 1: Bangor Daily News reported 2 precincts in already early before polls closed- 355 voters. Don’t trust the screwy percentage numbers though.
