Henry Rollins Open Thread

It’s Friday! For me, that means the start of a long weekend of unpacking, which should finally result in having a single, functional place to live.  It will be an exhausting end to an exhausting three months, but I can’t wait.

Also, Brave New Films has started a series of video conversations in conjunction with a few other blogs, including Open Left.  Here is the first one, featuring Henry Rollins, discussing whether got into punk rock because of his politics, or whether he was politicized because of punk rock.  Check it out:

Check out all the videos on Facebook at Brave New Conversations.

This is an open thread. Tell the world what’s on your mind.

Six pack tour (0.00 / 0)
In the early 80s, Black Flag’s first big record (yes, they still had vinyl back then) tour took them through a little punk rock bar in Greensboro NC called Fridays where I was manager, bartender, shortorder cook, pizza maker, etc. Their soundcheck just about blew out the windows. Henry drank only hot tea. He was bald and skinny. We lifted our ban on slam dancing that night. Good times.

Vinyl hasn't died! This is a pernicious myth! All my music snob friends (4.00 / 1)
collect it by the crate-load, and, albeit probably more in the UK, there are still recordings released only on vinyl. I’m fully aware that it has a richer sound, but given I have the luxury of not being a music snob and the not-so luxury of being incredibly absentminded, I cling to collecting my music on objects that are harder to scratch and destroy.

And, sadly, the last time I went through Greensboro all I got was bad sushi.

At any rate, looks to be a nice series, Chris. In the highly unlikely event that you are taking suggestions, I would be over the moon to hear from Kathleen Hanna.

Well, as a "21st century digital boy"… (0.00 / 0)

…I'm not that much of a Rollins fan. Sure a good guy, but sometimes he voices horrible nonsense, imho. Let's face it, in a political discussion Rollins would be no match for his more nerdy colleague Greg Graffin, Ph.D.!
