Adwatch: McCain is Really Vulnerable

This is an ad out from the DNC.  It's very good.  Also, McCain is really vulnerable on so many fronts that once the glare turns away from the primary his image is going to get blown out of the water as long as the nominee is willing to be critical.  Now, that's not a given, remember Kerry in 2004 making the bone-headed mistake of making the entire DNC Convention in 2004 'positive' and not mentioning Bush at all.

My belief is that the economy and Iraq are going to be determinative this fall.  If there's another leg down McCain has no chance.

This ad is good, and it's easy.

This is why we need to put a stake in HRC's heart and end this thing sooner than later. McCain's received a free ride up until now because the more interesting story line is the HRC/Obama feud. End that, and McCain is toast.

I like the ad, but I have a question (0.00 / 0)
they don't source his statements, or indicate the date they were made, which makes it a little more suspect to me. Have these been recent statements on his part?

I suppose the time frame of "better off 8 years ago" sets things up a bit, and the context definitely seems like it's been within the last six months of bad economic news, but it just seemed odd that they didn't include a date.  From most every ad I've seen like this, including a date for statements is standard operating procedure, so I was just a bit surprised that the DNC didn't include one.

It repeats all the same MISTAKEs we have been discussing! (0.00 / 0)
Yeah it is an okay attack piece on McCain, but here is why I give it C+

A) Doom and gloom politics fails to mobilize people. See the environmental movement for the past 30 years as an example (only since we have started positing solutions and values have people listened)

B) McCain is not the VP. The problems we have are not his fault. (Or so would say most people at this point)

C) It completely lacks a Democratis will fix this by.... narrative. Even if we don't mention Clinton Obama, we could surely distinguish ourself from McCain on these issues.

D) The ad hints at the fact that McCain is out of touch, but there is no overall narrative here to argue that point.

E) The ad FAILS to define McCain. It is reminsicent of Kerry's J-HOES(Jobs, healthcare, oil, etc). It is a litany of issues. And we all know how successful J-HOES was).
