teabaggers accost Franks call him a faggot (sofine)

Menacing

Things seem to be getting pretty heated in the Capitol with crowds of anti-Reform/Tea Party activists going through the halls shouting slogans and epithets at Democratic members of Congress.

As our Brian Beutler reports, a few moments ago in Longworth office building, a group swarmed a very calm looking Henry Waxman, as he got on the elevator, with shouts of “Kill the bill!” “You liar! You crook!”

Not long before, Rep. Barney Frank got an uglier version of the treatment. Just after Frank rounded a corner to leave the building, an older protestor yelled “Barney, you faggot.” The surrounding crowd of protestors then erupted in laughter.

At one point, Capitol police officer threatened to throw a group of protestors out of the building but that only seemed to inflame them more; and apparently none were ejected.

Note that this was in the Longworth building, not the Capitol building proper. But I’m a bit surprised that this is being allowed to occur anywhere in the Capitol complex. From Brian’s description it sounds like menacing.

Thanks to TPM

Its time to round them up and put them back on their buses back home.

As Roosevelt said,
I welcome their hatred.

Real Men
Take your mind back, I don’t know when
Some time when it always seemed to be just us and them
Girls that wore pink, and boys that wore blue
Boys that always grew up better men than me and you
What’s a man now, what’s a man mean
Is he rough or is he rugged, is he cultural and clean
Now it’s all changed, it’s got to change more
‘Cause we think it’s getting better but nobody’s really sure

And so it goes, go round again
But now and then we wonder who the real men are
Oh, oh…

See the nice boys, dancing in pairs
Golden earring, golden tan, blow wave in their hair
Sure they’re all straight, straight as a line
All the gays are macho, can’t you see their leather shine

You don’t want to sound dumb, don’t want to offend
So don’t call me a faggot, not unless you are a friend
Then if you’re tall and handsome and strong
You can wear the uniform and I could play along

Time to get scared, time to change plan
Don’t know how to treat a lady, don’t know how to be a man
Time to admit what you call defeat
‘Cause there’s women running past you now and you just drag your feet

Man makes a gun, man goes to war
Man can kill and man can drink and man can take a whore
Kill all the blacks, kill all the reds
And if there’s war between the sexes then there’ll be no people left

Boehner said there were "tens of thousands" out in the
streets by the Capitol, protesting.

I wonder what the real number is. Don’t watch cnn and haven’t seen a number elsewhere.

I was there
If you have ever been to the Capitol building, you know there is a fountain in front of the steps. This area was where everybody was, nobody past the fountain, and the area wasn’t jam packed. I would say no more than 5K, probably less. Michelle Bachmann said that they would have church tomorrow morning in the capitol building, just like the founders did (I dont know what the hell she was talking about, i guess she thinks George Washington led bible study in the rotunda). There were plenty of obama is a nazi/socialist/marxist/communist/illegal immigrant signs. And they were having prayer circles, probably to get the demons out of the capitol. I guess they think maybe the rapture will happen before the bill is signed into law.

you should send bachmann this link
http://watch.pair.com/mason.html

It explains the “Masonic Foundations of the United States.”  I’m sure it will also explain why the Flying Spaghetti Monster forged Obama’s birth certificate and on the seventh day gave her a (very temporary) seat in Government.

If I were religious, I think I would spend a lot of time thinking about what God/Goddess/deity would make of people like Michelle Bachmann.  Her existence as a Congressperson poses some significant challenges to theology, I think.  Makes my head hurt.

boy it's a good thing we have a department of homeland security and the patriot act and the no fly list and profiling and detentions and deportations
i feel very safe 😉

The stark contrast between how the capitol police handled
these protesters and how they deal with anti-war protesters is very disconcerting.

Were ANY tea-partiers arrested or detained?

it's disconcerting
but is it surprising? the police are an institution and particularly but not only in the capitol are probably governed by political sentiments of the time.  just like ‘free speech zones’ and the decision not to let anti-war protesters into central park in 2003 and the way the police attacked groups prior to the republican national convention in new york and the 1999 protests in seattle and many other ways in which they’re brought in to ‘police’ politics – whether just by ‘doing their jobs’ or by going the extra mile to f”£k people over as during ‘giuliani time.’

don’t get me wrong – i think the police have an extremely important role to play in society – but the way they are currently employed in fact generates the opposite of that role – who trusts the police?  the people most in power or willing to go along with things as they are.  who doesn’t trust the police?  the people with the least power or willing to dissent.

awesomely fӣked up.

The fact that it is not surprising
to me that the police come down on those protesting from the left (although not every anti-war protestor is a leftist) with more gusto than they come down on those protesting from the right (are there any left-wing tea-partiers?) is likely the most disconcerting part of the situation in my eyes.

Its like I expect the authorities to practice crowd-control and security in terms of political affliation. The very fact that I am no longer surprised when I see the the true face of authoritarianism makes me fear for my integrity. Like I’m caught in a virtual novel co-written by Kafka and Orwell.
