Attack Palin as a Liar

by: sTiVo

Sat Sep 06, 2008 at 11:00

Never mind the minefield of her daughter's pregnancy with all the pitfalls of false accusations of sexism that are sure to follow.

Give up the tempting but ultimately fruitless idea of ramming a prosecution of Palin through Alaska's throughly corrupt and GOP-dominated court system.

Why not go for the lowest hanging fruit, the fruit that cannot be dismissed as "sexist", the truth that cannot be disproven?

Forget about Eagleton, the relevant example is Checkers

For those fond of historical parallels, salivating over prospects of Eagleton redux, I have another example for you.

The Checkers speech.  Richard Nixon was basically left to sink or swim by Eisenhower.  If he could sell himself with a dynamite speech, he would be left on the ticket, otherwise not.  He sold himself well and Ike said, "atta boy".  And the rest, unfortunately, is history.

I don't normally complain about blog ads

But I find myself personally offended by Peter Peterson's "Up yours" piece of rightwing crap.

This sort of generational politicrap has no place on Open Left, and if Open Left has some sort of free-speech principles preventing it from refusing the ad, I would appreciate at least some sort of condemnation of it by the principals of this site.

If it's okay to slam Obama on FISA while still endorsing him (and I heartily agree that it is), then it's okay to take money from politically repugnant ad sources and bite their feeding hand.

Why I just contributed

(It's not just an advertizement for the site, it also sorta crticizes my diary from earlier today.  That's what I call "fair and balanced."

I just made a donation to Open Left.  I want to take this space to explain why.  Basically, I think it is important to sustain and nourish sites that have not totally jumped the shark of partisanship to one side or the other where these sides can debate and legitimately engage one another, no matter how difficult that is.
