Jones denies decision on Afghanistan has been reached (Hopeful in NJ)
For what it's worth, here is the denial of the stories in the previous Quick Hits:

Obama hasn't received final options that he has requested, neither has he reviewed those alternatives with his national security team, said National Security Adviser James Jones, responding to reports by the Associated Press and CBS News. The AP reported Obama would add "tens of thousands more forces," while CBS said he plans to send four combat brigades plus thousands more support troops.

"Reports that President Obama has made a decision about Afghanistan are absolutely false," Jones said in a e-mailed statement today. "Any reports to the contrary are completely untrue and come from uninformed sources."

Of course it is not hard to find historical examples of administrations lying about such things, or parsing the difference between "making the decision" and making the future decision obvious to everyone in the room by requesting a slight tweak in the 40K plan.

Keep in mind here...
Jones isn't denying the 40k figure at all. He's only saying that Obama hasn't made up his mind as to whether it'll be exactly that high. My guess is that it'll be around 35,000-37,000 or so in the end, which again is twice as big as the Iraq surge. Between this, the Stupak Amendment and Obama pushing hardcore Chenyism with regarding to the state secrets privilege, it's enough for me to just lock myself in the basement with a bottle of tequila.
