Reality or a Sitcom?

The Republican National Convention is over and even as I watched it I felt it was actually a parody of a political convention. Or, as others have compared it to, like some sort of weird political reality show. Maybe "The Surreal Campaign" or something. We even had some protesters out of central casting during last night's episode. Nice touch. Gritty.

And it just gets weirder. TPM is reporting and ABC is repeating that the green backdrop we saw John McCain in front of at the beginning of last night's speech was, when you looked at the bigger image on the video wall, the front lawn of a middle school in North Hollywood. Why? Nobody knows for sure but may have been they wanted Walter Reed Army Medical Center and instead got Walter Reed Middle School. Uh oh, somebody call the set designers!

What were the oddest parts to you?

Arrgghh (0.00 / 0)
I'm sooo sick of seeing her face. I'd rather look at McCain or Bush for that matter. Her "charms" certainly aren't working on me. I actually find her strangely unattractive. Just goes to show that looks aren't everything!

Really? (4.00 / 1)
I love that face. I happen to agree with the blogger suggesting she is the sexiest woman on TV. I just don't know when she'll have time for "The Surreal Campaign" in between writing, acting, and producing "30 Rock" and her numerous other gigs. Maybe they could get Megan Mullally or that mild-mannered-yet-troubled librarian from every Cinemax movie...

I did a double take. But was talking more generally.

Not a huge difference (0.00 / 0)
The real, official logo looks basically the same.

...the complete disjunction between McCain trying to sell himself as an agent of "change" and his inability to touch on any policy issue that was not boilerplate Republican orthodoxy?

McCain's call to throw out the GOP (4.00 / 2)
So he could replace them with the Bush economic policies and an even more belligerent foreign policy.

The difference between the two parties was stark.  The GOP is all about fighting and belligerence, the Dems about helping people and coming together, Cindy McCain's bio to the contrary notwithstanding.

I reiterate:  If Obama getting all the attention the week he went abroad really sent McCain into orbit, how long can he stand Sarah Palin upstaging himn and getting all the attention?  Really, it sounds like his purpose is to lend enough credibility to get her elected and then just expire.  How does he deal with that?  How does he deal with all the media wanting to do interviews and appearances with her and him being old news?  And he really does look old next to her.

John McCain--He's not who you think he is.

Who McCain fights for (4.00 / 1)
While Obama and Biden are talking about fighting for people who are losing their homes, McCain is fighting for people who lost their "real estate investments."  Don't get me wrong, both are bad, but only one of those things is tragic.  Then again, maybe McCain is just looking out for people like himself.

I Got My Dream (4.00 / 2)
McCain in front of a sickly green backdrop.

Really who does their art direction the whole big screen concept played dreadfully on the small screen.  Morning Jerk, I mean Mika were on it all morning.  Maybe they didn't care about the viewer.  Don't Republicans only care about themselves?  Or is it a clue about they do everything, very poorly.

On the reality front (4.00 / 1)
When can we expect an ad that intersperses McCain's comments about taking on corruption, yada yada...and some clips of him being questioned during the Keating 5 scandal hearings?  I am I the only one that thinks such is obvious?

"It sounds wrong...
     ...but its right."

Hoping for the midseason replacement (0.00 / 0)
I expect to see this sitcom in January, just as Obama is sworn in.  I bet the studios are fighting over the rights as we speak.  Comedy Gold!
