The Washington Independent Begins

The Washington Independent launched today.  It's sort of a progressive Politico, well-done and strongly credible reporting but not tilted horribly to the right.

There's not a lot of straight reporting of all the nasty stuff that goes on in DC.  Blogs have sort of broken into the pundit commentary sphere, but all the billion dollar plus amendments don't get any scrutiny at all.  Web-based models and noncommercial sites like this could be a serious fix.

Go give 'em a read and bookmark it.

Looks good on first glance (0.00 / 0)
and seems to cover a pretty wide range of issues.  I'd like to see "Environment" or "Energy" listed on their top topic banner, which currently includes things like "Science" and "Religion".

Does anyone know anything about their funding and/or business model?

Check Out their About Us Section (0.00 / 0)
They are a project of the non-profit Center for Independent Media. It seems they are mostly funded by liberal foundations right now. Check out their About Us section, including the Funding tab.
