Daily Kos features attack Iran ad

Primarydoc just published a diary on Daily Kos contending that the site is contributing to false advocacy and Iran-bashing based totally on false propaganda, principally the long unsubstantiated notion that Iran was contributing to the deaths of American soldiers in Iraq.

The ad features these words, with background visuals,

Iranian Bombs Are Killing Americans
On The Battlefields of Iraq

It is accompanied by shots of an IED exploding and a picture of a helmet and rifle, usually a symbol of a dead soldier. The Website skin is the advertising strip across the the top of Dkos' front page and is prominent, and highly expensive.

The diary itself, The DKos Website Skin is Misleading and Wrong (links are in the original), quoted Juan Cole prominently on the falsity of the accusations.

Contrary to the advertisement banner at the top of the frontpage, Iran is not threatening the US.  The Iranian military isn't actively killing American soldiers.  The Bush administration tried claiming in 2007 that Tehran was funneling weapons to Iraq and even the Taliban but these are unproven accusations -- Juan Cole has called it the New Yellowcake Scandal.

The purpose of such accusations is to build up momentum for invasion, and is reminiscent of the 45-minute claim made by Bush and Blair or the mushroom cloud scare tactics of Condoleeza Rice.

Cole says HERE:

Sunni Arab guerrillas are increasingly deploying explosively formed projectiles, roadside bombs that can pierce even tank armor. My guess is that the more sophisticated EFPs supposedly coming only from Iran are also sometimes made in Iraq, and that any Iranian ones are on the black market and could be bought by anyone, including Sunni groups.

Look at the left and right side of the screen: an M-16 rifle, barrel down, is topped by a helmet--clearly a gravemarker for a soldier.  A caption floating above mentions Iran and the money it's using "against us."  In the background a military Humvee or armored vehicle with flames interposed in the distance between.

The skin is warmongering and alarmist and utterly irresponsible.

The ad is paid for by Vote Vets Action Fund at VoteVets.Org, and seems to be masked by a Pass Clean Energy message.

When I clicked the ad to go to their website, my security suite reported, 'Suspected Fraudulent Web Site Detected.' Was it a fraudulent website? I continued to the website anyway but was still blocked. A search on Google, however, led me to Youtube and this video:

And here's the Clean Energy connection:

Everytime oil goes up $1, Iran gets another $1.5 billion to use against us. Pass Clean Energy now.

As of this writing, Fri, March 5, 2010, 10 am EST USA, the ad is still up.

Again we have to ask: is there an Israel connection here? (0.00 / 0)
When General Zinni, a once US envoy to Israel, wrote that Iraq was done for Israel's sake, are we now getting ourselves in an Iran for Israel's sake?

Is Iran the New Four-Letter Word?
By Nazee Moinian, 03.04.2010

Several weeks ago, I was invited to the Hertzliya Conferences, Israel's political follow up to Davos. I came back with the eerie sense that a new four-letter word has emerged in the international arena: Iran. Iran was mentioned, or alluded to, no less than 47 times during the two and a half hour opening ceremony. In his closing address, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu forswore reference entirely, as if even one mention would sully the Conference's success, or dishonor its guests.

Is America's old protege the new face of the enemy? Is this repressive regime the current symbol of shame? Is Iran ten feet tall and dangerous, or four letters long and ugly?

To be sure, Israel perceives Iran as both dangerous and ugly. This week's report by the IAEA stating that Iran may be working on a nuclear payload, combined with Ahmadinejad's venomous rhetoric, has once again raised the red flag for Israel. As a famous Persian proverb says, "those who are bitten by a snake will fear even a strip of yarn." Israel has been bitten many times and the strips it sees are on an Iranian nuclear warhead.

Another diary says warmonger against Iran is justified. (0.00 / 0)
And presumably Dkos has bought into it.

Our New Ad, Kos Wrapper, and Our Oil Addiction
by Jon Soltz

Fri Mar 05, 2010

A new television ad today running nationally and in eight states, sponsored by VoteVets.org in conjunction with Operation Free, makes a very clear point - to combat those who would do us harm, and protect America, we don't need more war, we need to cut their funding and effect their ability to cause havoc. One of the best ways to do that, right now, is pass clean energy and climate legislation in Congress, which would cut our oil dependence in half.

No mention of Iran so far. It's all about oil dependence. Then....

In the ad, Chris Miller, who earned a Purple Heart from an IED explosion in Iraq, notes something that our troops and intelligence has known for a long time: New and powerful explosive devices called EFPs (Explosively Formed Projectiles) some created in Iran and introduced into the wars our troops are fighting. Now, those who target troops (both those with ties to Iran and not) know how to make the weapon, which is specifically designed to pierce American armor. Ask anyone who has served in Iraq, and they know about Iranian influence in Iraq. In fact, the leading Shia cleric in Iraq is Iranian, so it's clear Iran has a vested interest and tactical reach in Iraq.

Miller then makes the point that every time a barrel of oil goes up a buck on the world market, that's another $1.5 billion for Iran, helping enable them to continue this kind of activity (not to mention help the regime keep its own people down). Miller concludes, "The connection between oil and the enemy couldn't be clearer. We need to break that connection, by breaking our addiction. And we can. By passing a clean energy climate plan. It'll cut our dependence on foreign oil in half."

And, that's true. The World oil market depends greatly upon Iranian supply and the United States, as the top consumer of oil in the world, significantly drives up oil prices.

And so the evidence is where? The say so?
