Insists, "Dave's Not Here!"

wobbly in quick hits says "stupid", but I'd go with insane:

Axelrod hopes GOP gains will bring cooperation

Washington (CNN) -- White House senior adviser David Axelrod is looking for a silver lining in expected Democratic losses in November's congressional elections.

While saying he thought his party would retain its majority in both the House and Senate in the November 2 voting, Axelrod told the CBS program "Face The Nation" that that he hoped Republican gains would bring more cooperation.

He accused Republicans of deliberate obstruction as a political strategy since President Barack Obama took office last year with majorities in both the House and Senate.

"The posture of the Republican Party from the moment we got here has been basically to deprive the president of bipartisan support so they could accuse him of not being bipartisan," Axelrod said.

"So I'm hoping that with more seats, the Republicans will feel a greater sense of responsibility to work with us to solve some of these problems," he said.

This is sort of like saying, "2+2=4.  But with a little, it will soon be 22!"

You literally cannot analyze shit like this, because it makes absolutely no sense at all.  Consider a mathematical metaphor for the moment. In calculus & the theory behind it--analysis--a function is analytical if it's "well-behaved", that is, infinitely differentiable, in every neighborhood.  One can think of these as functions without irrational discontinuities popping in whenever they like, thus making it possible to understand them in terms of consistent--albeit sometimes incredibly complex--patterns.  But the way Axelrod is "thinking" here--much like Obama apparently always has and does--is the exact opposite of this.  The apparent regularities are only for show at best, and to totally throw you off at worst.  The very essence of his "thinking" is totally insane and contrary to any rational pattern.

Although, come to think of it, maybe that's the whole point.  The DFHs are the only ones left who give a damn about trying to make sense of anything at all, so this would make perfect sense as a big Fuck You! to the last remnants of the reality-based community.

Either that, or Axelrod just has some really incredible drugs.

Must be hanging out with Rush Limbaugh again.

p.s.  Just to be clear, when Susan Collins says the same sort of thing she is stupid.  Dumber than a rutaga, in fact.  But for Axelrod to agree with her.  Now that's insane.

sounds like they're racking it up for a pro-corporate extravaganza over the next two years (4.00 / 1)
...awesome...can't wait to be blamed for this too.

oops...better stop whining.

Yup, Collins self serving excuses are at least understandable. (4.00 / 2)
They're stupid, but it's clear that she desperately want to believe them, so that she doesn't have to admit to herself that she sold out on her values and beliefs. But Axelrod? What's his motivation to voice such crap?

It doesn't even make sense as a campaign statemenbt meant to impress the moderates and independents. Because, come on, what's the conclusion if his nonsense was true? "Vote rethuglican, and there will be bipartisanship!" That's Axelrod's message, and I don't think Dem candidates will be happy about this!

you assume they want "moderates and independents" to vote D. maybe they don't

yes?

Here's the secret plan (4.00 / 1)
When the GOP takes the House and Lieberman and Nelson flip the Senate, then the President will announce he has officially become a Republican. That way things will work smoothly again.

Still pleading. Still hoping. (4.00 / 2)
Given that the Democrats have not figured out a way to cope with the recalcitrant GOP so far, and have been reduced time and again to pleading with them to behave, this just looks like more of the same.  Either they do not recognize the game the GOP is playing, or they refuse to recognize the game.  The former is stupid on steroids, the latter is delusional.  But, when you've tossed in the towel, and admitted that you're out of options, you're likely to do the same thing over, and over, hoping for different results.

For all the world, I cannot get the image of the highly permissive parent, pleading with a willful child to behave out of my mind's eye.  Sure.  You can take the car.  But, be careful, okay?  You've been in an accident the last 6 times I've given you the keys, and the repair bills are getting more expensive each time.  And, our insurance premium keeps going up.  So, try not to wreck the car this time out, please?

The alternative, which might involve going "nuclear" on the GOP's ass, carries a risk.  My sense is that the Democrats fear that when the GOP gets control of the political reins once again, payback will be intentionally calibrated to be 100 times worse.  So, they figure tip-toeing around this 600 lb. bully sitting in the middle of the room is the best strategy they have.  And, if they play nice with the bully, the bully won't hurt them too terribly.

Axelrod - to my way of thinking - has admitted two things with his statement.  The democrats are feeling helpless (1) in the face of this GOP machine, because they are too craven and too greedy (2) to risk they're own socio-economic status to challenge them.  Politically, they are washed up, has-been "athletes" who have become flabby.  And, the trade-offs they would have to make  on the route to political muscle is too daunting to contemplate.

Either they do not recognize the game the GOP is playing, or they refuse to recognize the game.

or this is what they really want. how else can we explain the WH pre-election behavior?

Wait a second... (4.00 / 1)
One of the narratives we've been hearing passed around, to try and explain the weird behavior of Obama and his folk against the base, is that they have decided the way to win in 2012 is to let the Republican'ts take over in Congress, then try to get progressive legislature but see it killed by Congress, and then campaign against Congress in 2012.

But how does this make sense if Axelrod is sharing with us the thinking of the Obama administration that a GOP Majority will actually help them get more things done?

Maybe the narrative that he hopes to run against a GOP Congress is just another of those 11 dimension string theory chess myths about Obama.  You know, the fellow really wants to do good stuff, he can't right now with this Congress because the GOP stops everything, so he's figuring on letting the GOP get control, waking up the country, and then winning so big in 2012 he can finally get the good stuff done.  In other words he's bashing us because he loves us and has a Hannibal Smith plan.

But Axelrod's behavior pretty much destroys this narrative... unless they are so wilely they are saying these kind of things to help the GOP win AND set us up to expect them to be reasonable after they win so they seem MORE unreasonable when they aren't.

"It wouldn't have worked if you hadn't believed I was really betraying you."

Makes just about as much sense as anything else I can think of; in other words none of this makes any sense at all.

Educate, Agitate, Organize, Mobilize, Act!

Occam's razor! (0.00 / 0)
That Axelrod is crazy is the much more reasonable explanation!
:D

Precisely! (0.00 / 0)
The smart-stupid so carefully crafted to be played by a new Bach falls into the hands of John Cage instead.
