That the Northeast has been trending blue in recent cycles is self evidently true. Will it continue in 2010?

The Northeast - Continuing the realignment in 2010?

We had a pretty good night on election night in the Northeast. We cleaned house. We nailed 1 GOP Senator, 6 House of Reps Districts, 1 State Senate and held on to all of the State Senates, State Houses, US House Reps and US Senators we had coming into this cycle.

That the Northeast is rapidly realigning towards team Blue is undeniable!
But the work my friends has merely begun. Forget the bunkum about us being irretrievably on defense in 2010 come below the fold to see who should be in our sights in 2010 as we stay on offense in the Northeast........

Mike Ferguson Retires (NJ-7)

by: David Kowalski

Mon Nov 19, 2007 at 19:02

New Jersey Republican Congressman Mike Ferguson stunningly announced he would not run for re-election to his House seat.  Feruson's district has a PVI of R+1.  Last year's race between Ferguson and Democrat Linda Stender was one of the tightest and more expensive in the nation.

Ferguson becomes the second NJ Republican to announce he would not run in 2008.  Jim saxton made his announcement earlier in NJ-3 (D +3.3).  These will be two of our prime pickup opportunities in 2008.

What makes this a stunner is that Ferguson is 37 and fought like hell to get the seat in the first place, defeating Tom Keane, Jr. in a contentious primary and that defending the seat last year with gusto and a Dr. Seuss like ad claiming. "Linda Stender is a Spender."  Feguson is a moderate by Republican standards. His career Progressive Punch rating of 18.75 is 14th best among House Republicans.  This past year, however, he had scored a genuinely moderate 34.48, fourth best among House Republicans (but only third best among NJ Republicans).
