Update–The AP has declared Elaine Marshall the winner in North Carolina! Head over to her website, and sign up for her campaign!

It’s primary day in Utah, and run-off day Mississippi and the Carolinas.  Politco has all of the results, while Swing State Project has good updates and resources.

The key result so far is in North Carolina, where progressive champion Elaine Marshall is crushing DSCC backed cal Cunningham. With over 30% of the vote in, Marshall leads by a whopping 62%-38%. Awesome!  (Update–The AP calls it for Marhsall!)

Another result of note is in the GOP run-off in SC-04.  Incumbent Bob Inglis is currently losing by an absurd 72%–28%, with over 30% in.  That has to be the most lopsided result in a primary ever, at least for an incumbent who has no obvious scandals.

Finally, in Utah, check out the Democratic primary in UT-02, where progressive Claudia Wright is challenging Blue Dog Jim Matheson.  Wright is unlikely to win, but a strong showing would still be a positive sign for future primary challenges.

This is an open thread to discuss the results. Talk amongst yourselves.

Three liberals now in a very position for November (0.00 / 0)
Elaine Marshal now makes it three liberals in a very good position for November. North Carolina, Kentucky and Pennsylvania. I am working on the premise that any party left or right who has a disastrous time in power. The opposite party is in for a landslide win. It happens all around the world. Why wouldn’t it happen in the USA? It did. Remember how Ronald Reagan played the Jimmy Carter wrecked the USA tune for 8 years? The Republicans last election had the worst president ever. So as I see it. The Democrats are in for a big run and should pick up seats in the senate. The Democrats have all the major issues. They just have to get out and sell. The main themes for this election will be:
1 It was all George Bushes/Republicans fault.
2 Drill. Baby Drill!
3 The extemists in the Republican Party Sharron Angle, Rand Paul, Joe Barton, Michelle Bachman and Sarah Palin.

That’s just for starters. The Democrats have loads of money. The left need to be in a position to capitalise on this win and not be caught off guard.
Cheers
Chris Burgess

While I share your enthusiasm for Marshall, Conway, and Sestak (0.00 / 0)
I wouldn’t call them true liberals, in the CPC/Bernie Sanders mold.  They’re mainstream liberals, like most Democrats in Congress, who are better than the centrists they were running against.
